yummyyumyum
hiya i live in a south yorkshire housing assosiation property. i remember hearing somewhere that there is a new decent homes regulation, whereas landlords have to equipt properties with a bathroom of less than 15 yrs and a kitchen of less than 10 years. does anyone know if this is right? the reason i ask is that the rent i pay is quite high and if this is true then i want to get syha to refurbished these rooms as they are older than these guidelines. any help on this matter would be great!! thanks, lisa:)

redrobbo
This might help That only applies to council homes managed by Sheffield Homes though. There is a council initiative gettinig under way to try and get the private sector to improve their houses to meet the goverment's Decent Homes Standards. I have to confess that I don't know about the housing association sector. freyas_mum - Why not ask SYHA yourself if they have any plans to modernise your property? Refurbishment could mean a rent rise.

H.P
I belive that S.Y.H.A have the same sort of thing going with the kitchen refurb, they usually replace them if they are more than ten years old. not sure about bathrooms though. If you ring the office one of the staff will be able to tell you when it's due for refubishment. Although like eveything else that the H.A does it ranks in priority, and they can be a bit slow to get round to doing them.
yummyyumyum
thanks for the above posts, i am going to contact syha on monday but i am trying to find out myself as i have noticed in the past syha have tried to brush me off as far as repairs go. thanks honey plant i am sure i must have read it in a syha suppliment i got that they are supposed to referb within 10-15 yrs because i remember when i read it thinking i was due for a new kitchen. i have been trolling through syha website and it hasnt been very helpful so i was hoping that someone on here might have known/found information that proves this as fact. thanks again, lisa
rubydazzler
I'd love a new kitchen and bathroom ... which are both over 20 years old now and looking very tired. I wonder if the Halifax have signed up to that scheme? After all, as they actually own my house, I think they should be responsible If Carling did mortgages ....
