Starz
I've set up the UK's only female tradespersons web directory and looking for any female decorators, gardeners, painters, carpenters, plumbers, electricians, architects, interior designers, bricklayers, builders etc to list for FREE their services on it. If anyone knows of anyone or you indeed are one then please inform them or sign up and list on SaferServices co uk If you have a website and agree to display a link to ours we will upgrade you too for FREE (worth £25) and you will be able to display more details and links about your skilled services as well. We accept tradesmen/company listings, but the bias is to women who have a business or looking to promote their skilled services on a local or national basis. Their is no other site like it for women in the UK. Best wishes
penny_crayon
Seems like a good idea, but I think you need to sort out the "counties" section. Unless I'm missing something, there is no mention of South Yorkshire, or North, East or West Yorkshire for that matter, only East and West Riding. And I wasn't aware that Sark was a county... surely it is part of the Channel Islands?
ARMANI
There was something similar to this a week or so ago on Dragons' Den.

Starz, it's an interesting idea - the main thing to bear in mind with this sort of 'Listings' site is that actually putting the site up there is the start - it's getting coverage that counts. Have you thought about getting a Press Release off to magazines like Cosmo, Elle, Red, etc.? Even approaching people like the Woman's Officer at the local uni (assuming they still have such things - it was 25 years ago since my uni life) might help. Good Luck. Starz
Hm, yeah I thought I would get that one come up. This is nothing like the two ladies on Dragon's Den. Our site and development has been running a lot longer, we offer a major directory championing women in business and manual skilled trades but don't crusade on their behalf on a them and us issue, male versus female. In fact the site's concept was shared equally between males and females input. It is amazing that although there are now a lot of courses for women to enter those who pass seem to disappear and even the power of Google struggles to find one for those clients who do wish to retain the professional services of a skilled tradeswoman. Hence our site. Peter Jones, on Dragon's Den thought the ladies' idea of a cooperative and training company had a small amount of merit, the women didn't help by crusading, but he did agree that there is a portion of the populace that would feel more comfortable dealing with a woman and was disappointed that the pitch never addressed that in more detail. The subject has been given lots of news coverage lately especially in gearing up for the 2012 Olympics and the need for more trained skilled tradespersons, and the Government helping with funding courses for women. I have been in touch with several organisations, but although many are eager to help women train they do little to tell them afterwards how to market and promote themselves, hopefully SaferServices co uk will be one that they will tell their graduates and apprentices of. It will help them be found online quickly. As there are few tradeswomen in the UK the site is open to also other female businesses, and ones which business or members of the public can choose to deal with a woman if they wish i.e Solicitors, Accountants, Minicabs, Website Designers etc
Starz
Hi Penny-Crayon. Several lists of counties give Yorkshire a dissection using the Riding reference. We did have East, West and North. But, in respect to those here who are in the great county I've relisted them as North, South, East & West Yorkshire. We are going to make some new changes and adding a whole raft of extras to help the public and member, what we did prove in these past few months that the site has an audience, members who wish to join and a number of happy people who have used the site and found what they wanted. We do though need so many more, ever onwards and upwards.
Starz
Oh yes - SARK. Well unless a plumber gets in a boat from Guernsey or Jersey etc we thought we'd give it some higher status. I'll report back when we get our first listee from there though...
