Kimpton
Coming through Sheffield today (on way bck to Derby) I thought I would check out the Hiram Wild factory shop on Herries Road. Not been before, but their general cutlery is very good so I thought I would pop in. Anyway the whole factory is empty. Have they closed down completely, moved or been taken over? simonr
My Dad worked there a number of years (10+) untill just before its first closure around May / June 05. It did reopen in July 05 I think, lasted for about 9 months in the same building, but operating using a different company name. My Dad went back part time to help set the machines up, the machines were that old and had there little querks that only he knew how to do it. In the end they only churned out cuttlery that was cheap junk, and the chineese do that better.
speeder
Yeah, I remember Housleys, Harris Miller and many others like them, I used to work for a transport co that did deliveries for most of the Sheffield cutlery, tool, scissor and knife trades, Wilds included
