Zamo
If the boss there is still that stickly female I’d advise you to pay up. I got a charge notice without even being in London! Tried in vain to point out to her that the car in question was a ‘ringer’ owned by a woman who was illegally using my number plates but had the same make and type of car. First she wanted proof of my residence and told me to get it from my local rating office. I then told her that if she wanted it, she should get it herself. The end result was that after several weeks of sqaubbling she collared the female ‘ringer’, withdrew my charge notice — but I’m still waiting for her apology. If you manage to talk to her — which is damn near impossible unless you insist and persist — you’ll find she has an acid tongue, is extremely belliigerent and a right old tarter. Even the girls on the telephones agreed with me on that! Almost forgot to mention that she told me the DVLA had me down as the car’s owner and not the bright lass who’d borrowed my registration number. Some months earlier I had informed the DVLA about this ‘ringer’, but they had obviously not recorded it. It had been recorded by Manchester, and Salford parking authorities which have their wardens taking pictures of tax disks and their numbers, so no trouble there. But London !!!!! She wasn’t willing to accept what Manchester and Salford said! A funny story - although obviously not for you at the time! To be fair they must get 100 ****** excuse for every genuine one so you can understand some scepticism. She was probably a nice person before she started the job! The point is that you had your charge withdrawn because you weren't there. The OP was there and didn't pay in the 24hours your get. That means zero legs to stand on and they should not add to their woes by taking on a fight that they can't win and one that will ultimately cost them a lot more money. peterw
I entirely agree with you on paying the charge. My experience was frustrating at the time, but to set your mind at rest that spiky female was hired (a) for what she was able to do, and (b) because she had exactly the right temperament and had all the rich and diverse qualities I’ve mentioned. Got confirmation of that from Ken Livingstone!
davyboy
I can't believe that Sheffield is so far from London that some residents don't know there is a congestion charge. I thought bad news travels fast
Old_Bloke
I knew i was going in there I just didnt expect the charge had to be paid so bloody soon. They should have huge posters up as you enter london telling you that you have untill midnight tomorrow to pay or face a fine of up to £150.00 Maybe you could find someone to sue as it's clearly not your fault that you did something without checking the rules/consequences.
