Ollie
Just seen a convoy of fancy cars shawoded by cops on bikes anybody know whats going on????? cheers It was some dignitary/MP/something like that. The police bikes are called "outriders" the front car (Jaguar i think it was) had 2 guys in it and is called SAP (security advance party), the middle car (cant remember make now) had the Principle, PPO (personal protection officer) and driver. And the rear car (BMW estate) had 4 CPO (close protection officers) in it.....clumsily using the radio above window height, naughty! Whoever the principle was must be rather important to have that amount and style of protection, thats pretty much as big a team of bodyguards as you'll see outside of Mr Bush, Mr Blair and the Royals. Hope that helps! Ollie

Ollie
The cars were performing practice runs on various routes in advance of tomorrows visit by Prince Andrew it is a standard security feature prior to any high profile visit. Im sorry stejen but your wrong. Yes, recce's of routes are common practice but they are not done as lets say a "full dress rehearsal" they would be done covertly. Also the recce's are usually done on the same day/time that the principle will be travelling (so say last Friday if Andrew is coming tomorrow) this is so they can get an exact on traffic congestion, timings etc. Obviously this cant alway be done but if you have the man power and resources i saw today then I would say thats when it would have been done. There is definately only ONE way that today was a recce.......the team is HIGHLY imcompetant!! Now, seeing as the police were involved (it may have even been a police team seeing as they had the outriders) I would doubt very much that they are that stupid and would make such a HUGE mistake. They would basically be aying to any potential assassin "here is our route, feel free to spend the next 24 hours finding the perfect ambush point", I think ive only met one or two people in my career that would be that rubbish and they didnt last long on the circuit! Sorry again for being the one to say it but you are wrong. Cheers Ollie

mowith
The police convoy, outriders, security men etc etc all visited Jessops Riverside the day before Prince Edward visited Sheffield last week. Nine six motor bike police and three cars with security men.
Ollie
ollie, i will be meeting with HRH tomorrow and have been involved with his protection team today, they are still on the roads now having just passed the town hall again and will be continuing there runs for a while yet,the exact same procedure was followed for the G8 visit and others, they practise on several routes around the city centre. Well seeing as you have inside information I stand well and truley corrected. However, may I add then that whoever is in charge of the protection team needs to be sacked! One of the first things taught is the value of route secrecy and choice. In my opinion, the team have put the Prince Andrews life at risk tomorrow by broadcasting potential routes for HRH! I must say, the police teams do tend to have a reputation within the industry as being a bit "look at us". Like i said in my original post, to have the radio in clear view whilst in the car is a big no no for starters. Also, I have been to events along side the royal protection squad in the past and had to bite my tongue a few times at some of their errors. If you have direct connection to the police protection teams stejen and would like an independant, civilian point of few, I'm available! However if it is a civilian company, I can also recommend ones that would be more professional.
Ollie
In point of fact, they do carry out rehearsals and training exercises - so I'm afraid it's you that's in the wrong ollie. If you actually read my post dan, you'll see i never said that "recce's" dont take place. I said that "full dress rehearsals" (a term used so that everyone would understand what i meant) dont and that recce's should be carried out covertly. The fact that the team have used a "full dress rehearsal" is, in my opinion, unprofessional and irresponsible. And as far as training goes, i never mentioned that either, but again, in my opinion training shouldnt be carried out the day before a royal visit, it just adds publicity to his visit and therefore raies the risks to his life, which is the exact opposite of what a protection team should be doing. So, yes i was wrong as to what it was (see my new reply to stejen) but no, i didnt say that recce's dont take place, just "full dress rehearsals". Please read posts in full before replying as it saves us all time. Cheers Ollie
