beansforyou
Well my wheel finally arrived this morning, I felt so sorry for the delivery man, the box was bigger than him! Took me about half hour putting it together, the seller had done a really good job of dismantling it and packaging it thankfully, so it was relatively painless, apart from me managing to put two of the pieces on the wrong way around and having to start again It needs a bit of TLC, i'm going to get a maintainence kit for it this weekend, so I can put a new drive band on and stuff, but it works! After fiddling with the tension and stuff and reading even more, i've done a bit of spinning on it, once you get going it's much easier than the drop spindle, you've got to kind of forget your leg is peddling away, a bit like patting your head and rubbing your tummy Anyhow, here is it Wheel I get a feeling it may be a while before I dare show any of my finished yarns
jules13
That looks fab! I'd love to give it a go but I really don't think we could possibly fit anything else in the house!
Guest
Drool... That's fantastic! Are you going to be able to venture out of the house with the spinning wheel calling to you day and night? Careful, you might turn into a recluse .
beansforyou
Turn?? I'm sure i'll be able to leave it alone for a few hours... Saying that, it does fit really nicely here by the side of the computer, and funnily enough my chair here is just the right height for spinning..will I ever move again When I went up to Winghams on Sunday, it turns out Ruth wants me to take my own wheel on the mini spin, makes sense, no point learning how to spin on another wheel if you've got your own. I did have to point out I don't think i'll get it on the back of the motorbike! So if you see a biker struggling up the stocksbridge bypass with a spinning wheel casually fastened to the back...say hi Upto now, i'm finding it goes alot faster than the drop spindle! It's just a matter of finding the right tension. God I sound like a trainspotter. *gets anorak*
Guest
Oh God, please don't make it sound any more fab than it already is. When I get into something, I tend to go the whole hog, so a spinning wheel has just moved up a few places on the list of stuff to buy . I had my first metalwork/jewellery class on Monday, and I've already bought a vice, a wooden bench peg, a piercing saw, some blades and some brass and copper sheet. God help me when we get onto working with silver... I can just see you spending the day moving the computer chair a few inches between the monitor and the spinning wheel, backwards and forwards. Do you intend to actually bother to get dressed in the morning, or are you going to do what I do on a day off and stay in your pajamas all day? . I love the idea of the spinning wheel strapped to the bike. Could you not attach a trailer? .
beansforyou
*images of my 250 virago trying to pull anything uphill* I don't think it would work I was going to ask you how the course was going, but didn't want to seem nosey. It would be great to keep posting and letting us know about all the other crafts you'll be trying, whats good, bad, terrifying etc I don't own any PJ's - maybe I could knit some? And I always have to get dressed, I don't think turning up at school in a morning in the buff would go down too well
jules13
Oh I want to try spinning! I saw somewhere that was selling drop spindles....might have to drop hints for my birthday?! I'd also like to try some crafting classes! I cross stitch and knit but I've had a go at card making, encaustic art and mosaic. My problem is classes like that are usually during the day and I never get a day off on the same day (if I ever do get a day off!). The college is only a 2 min walk from me, its just work getting in the way!
beansforyou
Drop spindles are only £2.70 from Winghams, they aren't stunningly crafted or anything, but they are all you need to get going. And some fibre lol.
