El-Mariachi
This,...http://itpolicy.princeton.edu/voting/ and in more detail...8 minute video, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JxKnlgvlwBY Greg Palast who works as a BBC Newsnight journalist picked up on this a year or two ago (I loose track of time). This diebold system followed on from the fiasco of the elections in the US when many black voters or democrats were struck of the electoral list by Jeb Bush in Florida. Elections are already rigged as we only have 2 real choices. Labour or Conservative or in the case of America, Democrats or Republicans.

Teabag
Stop moaning Bush won fair and square, live with it. Your concept of 'fair and square' may differ from many others. At least we know that his chances of re election are diminishing daily.
Heyesey
Your concept of 'fair and square' may differ from many others. But it corresponds with the one that Kerry and the Democratic Party have, since they conceded that the election was won fair and square.

I thought this thread referred to the previous election of 2000 when contested by Al Gore...the Kerry result was fair as you say
KenH
I think the yanks are making a mistake with these machines and we should be careful not to go down the same road. Except where people are disabled, I would only have paper voting at polling stations and have it so you put a tick in a box. The various electronic systems might be made hard to abuse, but once abused it will be easier to do greater damage. There is also something special about voting in person in an old fashioned way that shouldn't be trivialised by sending an SMS, or voting at the checkout in a supermarket. Just a point, but isn’t it the ‘Confederates’ who are playing about with machines? The Yanks are an entirely different breed!
Rich
We shouldn't follow suit and do what the Yanks do, but we probably will eventually given how far up the US Establishment's collective asses the UK Government are
