WTAW
I usually use a wireless mouse but obviously this is not always an option. However my touchpad appears to be stuck. I have tried disabling it and enabling it. Logging out and switching off etc but now I don't know what else to try. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. cheers. sallonoroff
You can disable it through the control panel. OK, and that didn't work.... so... Is there a button (physically on the case) to enable/disable it? or a function-key combination? (what's brand + model btw?) .
WTAW
moonlight, sorry couldn't get access to info yesterday due to the problem with my touchpad! I don't know if there is a seperate disable button in the machine (?) It is a toshiba satellite Pro.
medusa
I've never had a serious problem with my touchpad (so this is conjecture really), but when you say 'stuck' what exactly do you mean? If it won't move off one spot on your screen then it may well need a clean- crumbs under the casing or grease in places can cause this sort of thing. A careful wash and brush up might make things better. This sounds like a silly thing to say, but what happens when you unplug it and plug in a mouse instead? (if problems persist remember that you can get round much of your computer with your tab and enter keys)
sallonoroff
Apparently Fn+F9 toggles the touchpad on and off. Or you could go into the Device Manager and remove the touchpad from the list, reboot and see if it reinstalls itself correctly...? .

Thank you to everyone who is trying to help me solve this problem it is really frustrating. Ah! I get it now- it's not a standalone, it's built in to a lappy. Sorry for seeming dense, but I don't use a mouse at all and use a touchpad instead, so I'm used to seeing them as separate units that you plug into the back of the pluter. In that case I'd get an external mouse and make that the default pointer while you solve your problem- just for sanity's sake.
medusa
If it's a Synaptics or Cirque touchpad (which they usually are, whatever the brand of lappy) the drivers are available on the companies' webbies.
