superted666
okay so i wish to travel later today and take my bike with me, the train journey is virgin and they have told me to book it when i arrive. Worried it may be full does the train station allow you to park it there over night?
Bilge
Last time I looked there were a load of bike racks down the end of platform 1. It's a problem booking your bike on a specific train. So there's never a guarantee you can get it on any given train even when you've got your bike ticket thingy - but maybe this works better on Virgin trains I don't know. BasilRathbon
Sounds like you've been given wrong info, Superted666. The latest you can book a bike reservation on a Virgin train is a couple of hours before departure but, as Virgin trains passing through Sheffield have either come from Edinburgh in the north or Plymouth/ Bournemouth in the south, chances are it's already set off, so reservations have closed. In practice however you can normally just take the bike on as long as the train's not too full. Just wheel it on at the Standard Class end of the train (either the last door at the back or first at the front) and you'll find a big space where you can put the bike without it getting in anyone else's way. BasilRathbon
excellent ill give this a go tonight! if that fails is it okay to secure it there overnight? Can't help you with that one, I'm afraid. I would hazard a guess that you can, but it's entirely at your own risk. Best take a couple of locks with you to be on the safe side. badhairdo
there are also bike racks on platform 2. If you do leave it overnight make sure you secure it well. I have reserved my bike for virgin trains 20mins before. They can tell if no-ones made a reservation and should book you on accordingly - unless I'm just really lucky and get helpful staff.
