Serious question for football fans

Should they scrap the Carling Cup ?

Nobody seems to be really bothered about it, the teams dont care and judging by most crowds tonight (or lack of ) the fans dont care for it either.

Most teams had crowds of 3, 4 or 5,000 watching tonight and the Blades had 6 and a bit :help:

What do you lot think ?

I'm a bit in 2 minds on this...

On one hand blades v Bury, Reading v Darlington, Watford v Accrington etc are all boring games that nobody really wants to watch. But then on the other hand, if you get some of the bigger Premiership teams going to some of the smaller ones, it can be quite entertaining... Donny's games last year and the likes of Scunny v Villa and Chesser v Man City tonight look alright.

I think they should either seed the draw better so that the bigger clubs are always away from home at the smaller clubs (I would have contemplated Bury away last night, but not bothered about Bury at home) OR make it regionalised. Have a Yorkshire Cup, Midlands Cup, North-West Cup, London Cup etc with the same principal as above - the bigger club always away at the smaller club.

Or just scrap it.

Maybe they should make it a handicap competition, where the top 6 teams in the previous season's premiership have to give a one goal start to the other premiership teams, and the rest of the premiership teams give a one goal start to the championship teams etc etc.

That way if Chelsea were to play say, Darlington, Chelsea would start from 4-0 down. At least that way the Darlington fans could go to the game feeling they had a chance of winning the match, unlike what happens at the moment.

id like it to be kept as it can be a nice little earner for smaller clubs if they draw 1 of the big teams in later rounds

could probably do without carling cup, & johnsons paint . BUT when Wednesday win.... it's a different story.

always loved the FA Cup especially when the non league sides do well.

Saw tonight's match on-line, was impressed with the way the team were communicating with each other- something that was lacking pre-Megson. And yes the match was live on TV in America.

ps nice to hear from ya CB!!

Teams should give the cups a good go. As an Owl, our success in 1991 and cup finals in 1993 were really the most recent highlights except for playoff winners a while ago.

For any team having a poor season or mid table team, the cups are chances for extra income and to get some silverware along with playing top teams. Just think what teams would do without the cup competitions....? Wednesdays case was particularly bad this week, playing Thursday/Saturday/Tuesday so a weakened side was expected.

But should we make it to quarter finals? Semi finals? Same with Blades....will people still be saying we should scrap it? I dont think so. Its a huge boost for the smaller clubs and a chance for the likes of SW and SU to face clubs they 'feel' they should be competing with anyway.

On the other hand...same week as a planned international friendly makes it a busy week too!
