NicholasB
I thought someone must have asked about this before, but my searches search was fruitless. Anyway, is it worth paying for the mining and environmental searches (I'm moving to Stannington hopefully)?

NicholasB
You'd be mad not to in this area I suppose that's right for mining, but what about environmental - I'm at the top of a hill so I'll take my chances with flooding and contamination. Does the environmntal search cover owt else?
mollymoomin2
http://www.homecheck.co.uk/ try this site - it tells you the various risks in you area and how high they are. You just need the post code of the property you are buying.
AtticusFinch
You should get one anyway. Mine cost £39 and was pretty comprehensive. Buying a house is a dangerous business and there are countless problems that could arise with the house. It isn't worth risking that just for the sake of saving £39. Strix
There were so many poxy little industrial sites in and around Sheffield at one time or another that I wouldn't risk not having the environmental search done
mac123
I would doubt that you would be accepted for a mortgage without the searches being done. And if you;re buying a house, then for the sake of a couple of hundred quid, is it really worth not doing?

I've gone for the lot anyway - thanks for the advice good people.
