Any Ideas What To Do With Ferral Cat?

Hi can anyone help. I finally started letting my cats out, after psycho neighbour finally moved- another story, anyway there seems to be this stray in the area that is totally wild. I have three cats who are all quite capable of standing their ground but this stray is terrorising them. I've tried calling RSPCA but no joy, cant catch the thing either to take to a shelter. I could probably understand it fighting for food but it's not it's just vicious and now my poor babies wont go out....Any ideas?

Hi there

If this cat is actually feral, then the most sensible thing to do is to contact the lovely people at Cats Protection, who are the most experienced people with trapping and handling ferals. They can help with sorting out any health problems and neutering/spaying this little one, but if s/he is feral then the possibilities for homing or relocating her/him are quite limited.

What you have to remember is that feral cats are truly wild animals, and they aren't that helpful with humans that are trying to help them. What the CP try to do is to neuter or spay as many as possible, then manage the colony to try to reduce health problems or hunger.

However, cats are territorial by nature, and if this one is the head honcho on your territory, there really is very little you can do to bump your cats up the pecking order. Make sure there's a convenient and clean litter tray so they don't have to go up against a dominant cat, and thank them for being so sweet and cuddly.
