Yellowrose
I got the keys for my new place yesterday and I was waiting for the gas man to come and uncap my supply and service and light the boiler. When the British Gas "change to us" rep came I was a bit flustered for a moment, being in the middle of cleaning up and supervising two kids, and let him in thinking at first it was the other gas man! I couldnt get rid of him and ended up signing a contract to change, even though he said it wasnt a contract at first ... I am going to phone up and cancel, but I just wondered if anyone else had had this sort of treatment.
RazorSHarp
That's door to door salesmen for you, good job you get a colling off period isn't it? Never feel pressured into signing anything to get rid of a salesman. If you feel cornered tell him/her
Stuff
You shouldn't have signed the contract really, but they can be very pushy. I had a TalkTalk guy at my door last night and had to tell him 4 or 5 times that I wasn't interested before he actually went. I also (unfortunaely) know a door-to-door salesman that works for a gas and electric company. He was going through his figures last week (as he's somehow got my parents to change their supply), and he said to my dad: "These are genuine figures - not what I tell other customers". I queried this and asked if he actually lies to people, to which he replied "yes". Door-to-door salesmen... scum of the earth.
Heyesey
It's very simple to get rid of these guys. Tell them, once, that you don't ever deal with people at the door, then close the door. If you can't close the door because they're standing in the way, dial 999 and tell the police you have a burglar trying to break in. they'll be gone within ten seconds. scottf
Door-to-door salesmen... scum of the earth. All of them??? Thats a very sweeping generalisation you have just given, i know someone who does it and he as a genuine, honest person who does his best to give them accurate upto-date information. Maybe harsh, but in my experience they're all pushy scum. They come to your door, pressure you into things and lie to you. I'm sure there must be a few who break the mould though. "They" don't want it. If they did, they'd have called someone and asked him to come round and give them information. So, yes, your "genuine, honest person" is still an unwanted pest and annoyance. YakQueudrue
Tell him you don't use gas, whack him round the head with a frying pan, and then hide him under a rug. Failing that, throw him on top of a moving bus.
