About the new carseat laws

Recommended Posts

are you kidding? we are talking about mostly women, ... mothers to be more precise, law abiding and law fearing people with children .... the police will be all over this one. They can 'police' a small percentage of the people what wont cause them any grief AND make a tidy sum!

Incorrect, pinklady, they'll get the law abiding people merely to shell out a load for stuff which is irrelevant, because they know the law abiding people will. The people who cause all the hassle (drink drivers, stoned drivers, TWOCers, ex boxers, awful drivers, wom ....... (just got RSI :hihi: , OUCH, ahem) will simply carry on creating carnage and death.

In this respect it's something which strikes me as odd. As a father of three kids, two of whom under 12, and I'm a non driver, why am 'I' potentially expected to pay for protection for the mistakes of other people (unless I pay for a taxi, where there is an exemption, in which case it's ok for them to be rammed by a moron in a vehicle, or indeed the driver be reckless him/herself)?

If I were to be offered a lift home from a friend, who has no children, from the Lane, and my 6 year old is there, according to the law, he couldn't take her as he didn't have a booster seat, because, even though he knew we would be in the ground, and that even though, it was a snap decision for him to give us a lift, it's not 'an emergency', as it was merely an offer. Oddly enough, I wouldn't be walking about with such equipment on the off chance of a lift in such circumstances. However, I could get a private hire cab seconds later, and there would be no problem. Or a chockablock bus with its own hazards involving many people stood up in a vehicle moving at 'a speed'..

This is the most ridiculous piece of legislation I have seen in years.

Actually it's not, but it's up there.

But then you knew that.

basically the police are not content with all the money they make from speed cameras they want more do not trust them if you want to take a child in your car thats under 135cms tall you need a booster seat they cost £10 which isnt that much but i work in a shop that sells them and we sold 140 on sat! Do not trust the police they will do you if they can and do not take a child under 135 cm in your car without a booster seat! how much money do you think he police have made already from this law??

I am happy with the fact that childrens safety is being thought of as all cars are designed to seat adults.

Maybe the onus should be placed on car manufacturers to offer vehicles that come with interchangeable seat options and are annually maintained to make sure the seats for the children are correct for their age and size.

This thing has been rushed through with the people it should be aimed at, (car manufacturers) having no price to pay.

My seven year-old won't have to bother with the booster 'cos he's taller than the requirement. I agree, it's a silly law like the one that doesn't allow you to use mobile phones but you can use satnav, reprogramme your CD player, upload MP3's etc.

Actually, you are not. Using a mobile phone is a specific extension of driving without due care and attention.

Strictly speaking if you are going to program your sat nav, use a map, program your CD player etc etc you should do it while stationary, just like using a mobile phone. If you are seen to be driving without your full attnetion on the road, e.g. trying to plot a route on your sat nav, you can be pulled for driving without due care and attention.

which renders any law about mobile phones pointless as existing legislation could have been used when appropriate.
