Removal costs - help! what did you pay?

Recommended Posts

Hi, im in the process of moving at the moment but i cant really bidget until i have an idea as to how much removals will cost

Im moving from a 4 bed house a couple of miles down the road - no issues with access.

I would be gratefull if anyone who has moved recently can give me an idea as to how much it cost (including the dreaded VAT!).

All responses appreciated!!! Let me know if you paid for them to pack etc!

Depending on value of items it might be worth calling a man and van outa the paper , try and get one with LWB (Long wheel base) and high roof where possible for easy loading. usually about £20 per hour, then pay a few local lads , that you know of course a tenna each and your sorted!

thats the cheap option, as for the dear option best you could do is again ring out the papers specifically for removal firms

It will cost about about £400 for a proper job and the packing will be £200 to £400 depending on what you want doing, give bev a ring at sbs 2574700....she might do you a deal.

I paid £35 per hour for Merrills removals. They didn't do packing (but I wouldn't be interested in that anyway), but they did a good job. There were some access issues and the service included dismantling and re-building of a particularly large wardrobe.

Took 5 hours for a flat to flat move, but as I say there were access and furniture issues that really slowed things down. They moved my mum and dad from a 3 bed house to a 2 bed house, and a much further distance, in 4 hours.

I paid too much with Keetons, they quoted me one price, charged me more, so wasn't too happy. Just be careful, they sometimes say it'll be 4 hours and charge for 6, or did in my case!

They can only give you an idea for how long it will take, as they don't know what access will be like, what traffic will be like, and what furniture you have. You can't really complain if it then takes longer.

sounds like merrills are the cheapest...just watch for any extra travelling charges....but they must have good staff to work so quick.

In my experience i would get them to quote....then you know the worse case and you dont get suprises........i only like 2 of them! Birthday and Christmas
