viking
You could not run a business from a COUNCIL owned house years ago. Dont know if that has changed.
avid_merrion
You could not run a business from a COUNCIL owned house years ago. Dont know if that has changed. You can run a business from a council house if you have written permission from them.
Lickable
I own the house, but it is ex council. My deeds clearly state that i cannot conduct business from the premesis.
Stuff
It's on the deed to my house as well. I asked the solicitor when we bought it and he jus told me to ignore it. He said it wouldn't apply to freelance web stuff - only businesses that attracted visitors, such as shops etc.
Lickable
Thats what I thought, but at the end of the day its in writing. I think I would feel safer if I had written proof from whoever can give it saying otherwise. Will have to try ringing the council.
JoeP
Hi, My understaanding is that it refers to customer facing businesses or businesses that are likely to disrupt a residential area - car repairs, light industry, smelly things, etc. I really wouldn't sweat this one. My friends house , not ex-council, has a covernant on it just as your house does, and she also works from home. She and her husband have done, for many years. It's when you start running a car repair business and someone complains that you have to worry. Having said all that, keep it to yourself. Neighbours can be fickle when they want to.
