callippo
there's a chance I might get up to 12 points after going through a red light. Just got a summons, though I don't think I have to attend the court. what's the average length of ban when this happens ?
swordfish1
Go to court, say that you need your car or you'll lose your job. May not be banned
medusa
The court will take lots of things into account, like how long you've held your licence, how long it took for you to accumulate the points and the sort of offences that caused you to get the points. There really is no easy answer to this, as there's significant room for the magistrates to sway the outcome. I can't help feeling that attending the court at least looks like you give a damn enough to attend, rather than just being banned in your absence though. callippo
cheers guys a licence is ESSENTIAL for work, but the thing is, I'm off from work from late October until late February, so a three month ban, that won't matter one bit. plus I can't quite lay my hands on my licence so I'd better send off for a new one if it doesn't turn up in a couple of days.. DJ_Double_N
I went through a red light last year and got 3 pooints and £60 fine. U will probably get the same.
Thunzi
If your car is essential for work (it's up to the court to decide whether it is or not) then you can pay a hugely inflated fine to keep your license. It's happened to two bosses at my old company all for speeding related offences. One had to pay £900 and one had to pay £1200. Sure you can't catch the bus? garryn
Its going to cost you on the insurance though Agree with this. I think your points go off your licence after 3 years, but insurance companies take them into account for 5. I know someone who got another 6 points, which took them up to 9 points on their licence who nearly couldn't get insured because 6 months earlier 3 others had still been on. several companies refused to insure him
