Yoga. A good way to get into shape?

Right after years of being slim, I am finally getting curves!

 

Which is fine, but I don't want it to get any further than that! My friend said yoga is a great way to get into shape, and great way of relaxing.

 

Does anybody do it, does it tone you up? Is it a good form of exercise?

I think you'll find that most forms don't give you a flat stomach, but they will help your overall health, flexibility and muscletone, and make you more symmetrical and centred so you injure yourself less than before you started doing it.

 

I'm a huge yoga convert- I do Iyengar yoga which is very slow and exacting, and uses lots of props to help you maintain the poses for up to 10 minutes at a time. I would never have believed that some of the slow poses could be such hard work, and I found muscles I never knew existed when I started doing it, but it's improved my flexibility and pain control no end.
