Flutterbyes
hi, just bought my first house. never had a gas fire before its a streamline 2 and i cant find out anything about it. the flue seems to go up the chimney but im not sure about this. there is definately a hole above the fire. the back of the fire is an off white colour, can this be painted with black lead paint or not? im prob thinking not. is that bit of it easy to replace and whats that bit called. if you buy a new fire is that bit normally included. how much does it cost to have a fire changed over. im keeping the existing hearth and back but replacing the surrounnd and possible fire. but what i know about gas fires i can write on a postage stamp! help!! :help:
H.P
the only advise I can think of is.. get a corgi registerd fitter to look at it, theres a great little shop at the bottom of leppings lane called B.R.S they did a good job with ours. and they were cheap
Flutterbyes
i wouldnt try a diy job with it otherwise we may have problems if we come to sell it. im trying to figure out if i can salvage the fire ive got, or bin it and get a new one. if i get a new one will it come with the back bit i just need a crash course in gas fires, whats the difference between the different types etc etc, so i can figure out what ive got and so what i need to do to replace/repair it thanks for the sound advice though
H.P
I wouldnt try a diy repair job, pretty sure it's illegal to mess with a gas applience unless you are qualifyed. what do you mean by back bit?

H.P
I think it's the back panel that comes with the hearth, if so they dont usually come with the fire unless you pay for one

H.P
That bit should come with a new fire, you could possibly get a replacement part but I suspect you would have to do a fair bit of hunting to find a stockist, what make is the fire? mind you had to squint a bit at the piccy
