why is it that none of the sheffield venues ever have a consistent line up of good gigs?

yeah sure we get the odd appearance by Embrace, The Monkeys etc,

but when i was looking for a good gig today i had to look elsewhere.... compare the gigs we get in Sheffield with those in Manchester for a start...

Coming up in the next few months the Manchester Apollo has:

The Magic Numbers

Primal Scream

Keane

The Zutons

just to name a few - and thats just the one venue...

isnt it about time that sheffield got a regular look in??

With the addition of The Plug we're getting better. A lot of it is down to no middle-sized venue. We have The Leadmill but a big band would fill that in about 10 minutes. Then we have Sheffield Arena which isn't the greatest venue for music, and its far too big for most bands. Plug has slightly filled that gap but its not perfect.

Hmmm i went and saw Westlife in sheffield arena a few times but i was really young and they recently had chilli peppers and mcfly there. I am wanting to go to manchester to see tenacious D...Jack Black RoCkS!!!!

I dont think sheff has many good venues...unless your wanting to go to the cinema.

I personally thank god Himself that the likes of The Magic Numbers, Keane and The Zutons do not descend upon this city and display their bland, turgid 'music' upon the inhabitants of Sheffield.

It also depends on what you mean by good gig, out of those you mention I'd only class Primal Scream as good. I've seen plenty of good gigs at Sheffield but you probably wouldn't like some of the bands.

I think the City Hall really missed out on the chance to attract bands like the Manchester Apollo does when they had the refurb.

Making the downstairs seats removable would have made the venue so much more flexible. As it is Sheffield still doesn't really have a credible 'mid-size' venue, probably the Octagon is the closest.

wooo Embrace... a good gig.... you've obv not seen them live! He cant sing!

In the next few months theres LOADS of good gigs in Sheffield, Razorlight, Kooks, We Are Scientists, Maximo Park, Boy Kill Boy, Bruce Springsteen, Muse, Milburn and the mighty Tom Jones... theres loads, you just have to look, or get exposed mag etc
