Lotti
Following on from a thread about what we feed our dogs, I thought I'd add what I give my dogs along with their regular complete food. They get their complete food twice a day. Sometimes, they may get scrambled egg or weetabix in replacement of one of their meals - just for a bit of indulgence. Also we give them: heart - once a week. Only a small amount needed as too much can be bad for them, we usually give ox heart. carrot sticks - great training treats and good for their teeth raw carrot - a carrot given a few times a week is good for the teeth and gums but be careful it doesn't agree with some dogs and one of ours has to have it in very small amounts raw bones, chicken legs are ok but must be raw! - again, extremely good for healthy teeth and good sources of calcium and other nutrients. Supervise dogs when first giving them small bones to ensure they chew not crunch cheese - a great training treat (especially for skinny dogs), can go straight through them though so beware! egg shells - if ever you're making a meal with eggs and are going to throw the shells away, think on and give them to your dog. You can either crumble them into your dog's food or give them to the dog as they are. They're very good for them! Any more? There's loads more but it's too late to think of them! viking
That tip about egg shells is good Lotti, never even knew dogs could have them. I usually put egg shells in the composter.
kittenta
What about pasta and rice (cooked). The vet told me to add this to our dogs diet as no matter how much she eats she still scroungers around for more (been like it from being a pup). It fills her up with just a handful added to her food and it's supposed to be very good for them!
Lotti
Viking, we crush them into Takara's food but Eddy will just eat them as they are (Takara will chew them but spit them out all over the floor!) Kittenta - that's another one! Our dogs love pasta. They get any left over cooked pasta in their meals and we've discovered that Eddy loves raw spaghetti Also - a breeder told me the other day that adding cheap tins of ravioli or spaghetti hoops to their food can help them gain weight (Takara's lost weight) so there's another idea! Strix
I hope that isn't because of anything like their salt content
