squeakyclean
Some idiot nearly hit my daughter outside woddhouse library today, and if the person in question is reading this is reading this, "you shouldn't be on the road, you fool" My 7 year old daughter and I had just left the library and proceeded to the zebra crossing on Tannery steet? It was clear to the left, but a bus was coming from the right. The bus stopped, and we started to cross, then from nowhere a white transit van came down the side of the bus and was a few inches away from hitting my daughter. He never slowed down, just carried on straight across the crossing. I am grateful to the bus driver (TM buses) as he slammed on his horn when he realised what was happening. I didn't get the van drivers number, as it all happened so fast.
SpiderPete
Good god, glad to hear you are both safe. There are some manic crazy drivers out there, who dont give a damn to pople who use zebra crossings. I woudl rant as well about drivers who dont signal turning round corners, and when I start to cross they come hurling round the corner, and wonder why I cross. USE YA BLOODY SIGNAL LIGHTS, thats what they are for. Rant over ........... oh dear, I`ve ranted. Anyway glad you are both safe. Shame you didnt get the van`s reg no. Shiesh
How uncanny this sort of thing happened to me many years ago when my eldest son was small !! The thought of it makes me shiver!!! The only differance was it was a bus at fault not a car/van driver!! I too had just left a library....Woodseats Library and was using the pedestrian crossing outside the KFC to crossover Chesterfield Road. The lights changed and the green man was beeping but a bus was coming so fast along the bus lane it didn't stop - if I hadn't had such a tight grip on my sons hand to be able to pull him back he would have almost certainly been killed!! I was so shocked I collapsed to my knees and sobbed !! It really was the closest shave ever!!
Guest
I'm glad you and your daughter are alright. There really are some utter idiots on the roads. I'd love to believe in karma, and imagine that they'll delete themselves from the gene pool by doing some similarly stupid move at some point in the fututre, but sadly they'd probably take someone else out at the same time. I hardly think the life of your daughter is as important as the urgent need this driver had to reach his destination. I'm afraid I never use zebra crossings, it just provides a way for the driver to aim at me more accurately. Glad she is OK and I hope the driver takes himself out sometime without harming others. Heyesey
Shame on you! The driver obviously had an important parcel to deliver or cup of tea to get to. I hardly think the life of your daughter is as important as the urgent need this driver had to reach his destination. Well, we have brought up an entire generation who simply don't understand the concept of other people having opinions, wants, needs, or rights .... I don't even get surprised by this stuff any more. Too many people have given us two fingers for not stopping to let them go through when it's clearly marked they have to give way; too many people have almost run me over because they were turning left and couldn't be arsed to tell me; too many people have pulled out in front of us because their journey is important and nobody else's could possibly be ... ahh it's depressing. Glad your daughter is okay.

squeakyclean
Shiesh, how weird is that? A almost identical situation. I could really kick myself now, as i didn't even scream obscenities at the driver or anything. I was just so shocked. I was thinking about it for ages last night, and I know I am going to be very wary of crossings from now on, especially zebra one's. The thing is, what else can you do?
