Street drinkers on London Road

I'm getting rather irritated with having to walk past a persistant group of boozed-up street drinkers (sometimes up to a dozen at a time) on my way to and from work. They congregate outside the chemists, across the road from the japanese restaurant and pretty much remain there all day.

They make the whole place look really run down, in my opinion (granted, the London Rd area isn't the best looking place in Sheffield, but I live around there and think it's a great multi-cultural area).

Is it just me or do these 8am alcoholics get on anyone else's nerves? What can be done to resolve this problem?

True... I've never been hassled by them. However, what about the businesses around that area? It must be a negative thing for, for example, a restaurant to have it's customers dining and outside there's a dozen boozed up street drinkers having their daily dramas?

Like I said, maybe it's just me, but I think, it's detrimental to the community.

They aren't doing any good either.

In my opinion they're a waste of space, how many of these people who are ****ed out of their head at 9am in the morning have got a job and contribute to society?

The odds are that they're too idle to get a job and rely on handouts to fuel they're addiction to alcohol.

They should be made to stay sober and do a bit of work, instead of everyone making excuses for them.

It doesn't always appear to be London Road drinkers either, as many forummers know we had a thread regarding the Cannon pub nr Castle Market regarding the drinkers that take their seats outside the pub,

I do sympathise with you John. But whenever I see someone walking down the road near where i work with a can of beer in their hand sometimes at 8:40 am in a morning, theres never anyone around such as a higher authority to have a word with them. I don't know what can be done John, I sometimes walk past the office nr the West Bar Roundabout that helps homeless people provides them with breakfast etc, but most of them congregate outside in a morning with cans of beer waiting for the doors to be opened, this is just a few minutes away from the West Bar Police Station where i am sure they can be spotted but they just aren't bothered,
