Sorry - MORE INSURANCE ADVICE NEEDED

Recommended Posts

:help: Please

Can someone tell me , After writing your car off in an insurance claim - Are the insurance company allowed to send your car to a breakers / salvage yard before

a) Letting you know they are doing so (to collect belongings and tax disc etc?

b) Before you have agreed the amount they have offered you/ or exactly what you want to do with the car?

Please note - This is over an attempted Theft / Damage Claim - Car Never stolen but damaged in process.

Please help :help:

Hi

Afraid so, standard procedure. You could ask your insurer where your car is being stored, then ask that company if you can come along to remove your property.

In all fairness I would have removed my belongings before the car was removed by the recovery company.

Hope this helps

Yes me too

Had I even thought for one minute that an attempted theft - Broken Locks and damaged ignition - Would result in a total loss of the car .

I was merely after the tax disc (with 11mnths tax left on) and new car mats purchased very recently. Everything else was obviously removed when the car was.

I think that its only there as a means of storage, the insurance company probably has deals with the salvage yard. You can still organise to go and pick any property up from it, and if you wish to buy the car back from the insurance company pick it up from the salvage yard.

I'd question at what point the insurance company took ownership though if the car was never stolen? Did you put it into one of their garages for repair?

Broken locks, even if they damaged the bodywork would only cost £200 to fix, that’s if they did both doors! Ring your insurance company and find out what’s happening, sounds very weird situation.

Hi

I called the ins company as the vehicle could not be moved

they transferred it to a car repair centre which subsequently wrote it off and shoved it off to the salvage yard immediately

The car repair centre didn't even know it had gone when i called to pick stuff up and when i turned up to the salvage centre (v nice place :( ) one of the blokes had my tax disc in his back pocket ??? and kept saying what a lovely tidy car it was ...

I just find it all a bit weird, and a little violated.

Is it me (or is something fishy)

What car was it? To write it off it's got to be damaged to a certain percentage (forgot what that is now, say 50% for sake of argument). I don't understand what you've out there, the car repair centre wrote it off and sent it the salvage yard then didn't know they'd done this when you called to pick up items???

The car is still yours, so is the tax disc. The guy definitely shouldn't have had it in his back pocket unless it was for safekeeping. Did he give it to you when you asked for it to be returned? Ring your insurance company and ask for a report as to why it was written off. Unless it was a real shed I doubt there was enough damage done from lock damage and damaged ignition, especially if the salvage guy thought it was tidy.

So, who wrote it off? That's the job of the car repair centre that your insurance company sends it too. I'm totally confused how it got sent to the salvage yard if they didn't write it off, it’s very worrying they didn't know where it had gone. How did you trace where your car was?

Definitely ring your insurance company first thing tomorrow. Sounds as though you are dealing with a right set of numpties.

The Car repairers Wrote it off . And called me

I never heard anything from the insurers

They must have a certain salvage company to pick them up.

The repairers called the 'said' salvage company to see if they'd got it because they didn't know it had gone :suspect: .:loopy:

They gave me instructions to get there.

Oh I am - LOL Just in the middle of a snotty letter too . I just feel sooo stressed - Been on a complete rat race this week - And without a car at the end of it all !!

Just an amount to work with and try and find a new car.:(
