I think its a nice life if you get on the gravy train. http://www.sheffieldtoday.net/ViewArticle2.aspx?SectionID=58&ArticleID=1236877
Agent Orange
Don't these expenses cover the running costs of the MP's office like having a secretary etc????
poppins
What does your Mayor do ? in the US the town Mayors are elected by the people and they have the final say in everything, in fact it's a pretty important position to hold.

I suppose you would be the first to complain about Mp's not dealing with their consituents problems quick enough. I wish some poeple would grow up and realise that being an MP is a huge job and requires a number of staff and other resources. To suggest that they are on some sort of gravy train is rubbish. I totally agree that these figures should be published and that the public can hold any rogue MP's to account. But lets not be too quick to slag them off for just doing their job as best they can. That gos for MPs from all political parties.
Kthebean
Its a good thing MPs get such a lot of expenses. Its costs a hell of a lot of money to become an MP and a great deal of sacrifice in your personal life. Women are less likely to have a lot of independent cash lying about and those with children need to think about the future. At present there are only 127 women MPs out of a total of 646, so anything that will encourage them to enter politics is a good thing. The average CEO is paid 630,000 basic salary without bonuses and expenses. People come from really high paid jobs to be MPs. Why shouldn't we pay the people that run the country a decent wage and reimburse them for expenses? Although I suppose if the BNP ran the country theyd do it out of the goodness of their hearts? MrH
If we ask our MPs to work for nothing, the only people who will do it are the people with nothing better to do. If you want somebody with any kind of ability and intelligence to do the job, they will have to give up a decent, well paid job to do it - so they will need a comparable salary, taking in to account they will often have to run two homes (Sheffield and London). They also have to cover the costs of their offices (in London and Sheffield), and their support staff - unless you expect them to work for nothing too - out of their expenses. Pity you decided to show your homophobic traits right at the start of the post. So you only want white middle class straight males as MPs
