modders
There's probably another topic very similar to this one, but I thought i'd have a rant anyway. I got assaulted last night in the leadmill by a group of 4 youths who broke my nose and kicked me repeatedly in the head so I called an ambulance which took me to the hospital. I waited 3 - 4 hours to see a doctor even though I was the only person waiting in the reception and when I eventually did get to see a doctor, she did an x-ray (which I was waiting a further hour for) and said - "yes it's broken. Go to the halamshire tomorrow." Great. I thought the customer service there was appalling. It would have been fine if I'd have been told how long I was going to be waiting. scoop
Well how would they know how long you would be waiting? Even though you were the only person in the waiting area, there's a strong possibility that sicker people were being brought in by ambulance through a seperate entrance, and that you got pushed down the queue by more serious cases. Heres the link to address your complaint: http://www.sth.nhs.uk/patients/2-7.php
Kate.E
I broke my elbow in 2 places - they were in such a rush to see all the drunken idiots that they didn't notice on the x-ray(!) and sent me away and told me to move it as much as possible. I went back a week later as I couldn't sleep cos of the pain - it was then they found out that it was broken twice. By then it was too late, and it'd already healed in the wrong place. My arm will not straighten properly anymore!

I don't work in the emergency department at the NGH, but do work in an emergency department elsewhere in Yorkshire ... you may have been the only person waiting in reception but that does not mean the emerency department was not busy... big clue Emergency Department staff aren't making you wait for the fun of it , you wait becasue we are busy and because you can safely wait to be seen unlike others who need life or limb saving treatment NOW be thankful for the NHS and the fact you haven't woken up with a bill for several hundred pounds this morning - the true cost of your treatment so far ... the reality is not only does the NHS provide a free at the point of delivery service, but Emergency Dapartment Care in England is some of the best organised in the world , thanks in part to the ludicrous 4 hour target invented by Bliar and his cronies ... prior to the 4 hour target - you may still be waiting to be seen the first time as the waiting time for minor injuries reached 10 , 12 or more hours in many big city Emergency Departments. AlquarUK
Ive never been to ANY emergency room and seen any quicker than 2.5 hours (not including the new 'quick check' they do). Thats just what I now expect TBH, sucks but its life. Like said there are prolly more serious things being dealt with the public can't see. I think they do a good job. as a neg tho, last time was in I actually broke my leg and ankle and the house doctor on that night diagnosed the wrong bones broken!!!! luckily the nurse did such a good job of strapping it till the following day I'm not limping now . Then the next day when I went back the Dr asked me to leg my leg relax while he held it up for a cast to be put on it. I didn't so was told off and again told to relax my broken leg/ankle. HE DROPPED MY LEG ONTO A HARD TABLE FROM ABOUT A FOOT HIGH!!. Needless to say I wasn't too happy about it! All the same, on the whole I think 99% of the staff there do a superb job in a stressful busy environment.
phawley
Last time I went to NGH A&E I took my son who had injured his arm playing football. After 7 hours waiting they Xrayed the arm and two junior doctors/consultants checked the Xray and said nothing broken and sent us home. Next day my son had gone to work (mechanic) in much pain and we recieved a phone call from NGH, a senior consultant had checked the Xray and found that my sons wrist was broken in two places. I had to collect him from work and take him straight back to have the arm put in plaster.
Becky B
Ah, the usual stories. People only ever see the negative. It's only bad things that get in the news. Maybe the NHS should employ robots instead of people, as they are computers and will never get tired or make mistakes
