mackie69
Last night I tried to introduce one guinea pig to another. I put lots of veg on the floor and luckily there was no fighting! I don't understand what one piggy was doing tho After a while Jiggle starting sniffing at Polly. Jiggle then started putting her nose under pollys head and lifting it up. She didn't seem to be showing ay teeth but she was making very quiet squeaky noises on occasion. Polly reacted simply be moving out of the way but then Jiggle followed her and did it again. After about ten minutes I but them back in their homes as I wasn't sure whether she was being loving or nasty! Does anyone know what Jiggle was trying to do?? baileys_mum
Im not sure about what she was doing, maybe she was trying to snuggle with her? How old are the two?
BobbyBunny
If piggies are anything like rabbits (and I'm not sure about this, so don't take my word for it) rabbits put their heads under each others chin as a way of showing superiority. Touching under a rabbits chin is not a good idea, because thats the way that more dominant rabbits tell other rabbits to groom them. And grooming among animals shows the 'pecking order'. It could be Jiggle was trying to show that she's superior to Polly, but Polly was having none of it. Hope this helps.
baileys_mum
Guinea pigs like thier chins being stroked, so I don't think its a superiority thing

kittenta
Polly is nearly one and Jiggle is two. Jiggle has been living alone for a few months now but Polly has another in with her. I'm going to try them tgether again later. I am trying to introduce polly and anna to jiggle one at a time as i was told by the pet shop that polly and anna may gang up on jiggle. baileys_mum
A few tips for you, put a tiny bit of vicks under thier noses, it makes them appear to all smell the same. also put lots of tasty veggies in with them for distractions. I would recommend getting peter gurneys A-Z its been my life line on a lot of occasions
Treacle26
Hi, i used to keep Guinea pigs and they push their heads up if they want you to stop doing something or they don't like it. It may be true that she was saying that she wasn't exactly happy about her being there! Be careful and keep an eye on them.
