Leppings lane roundabout

Does anyone else find this virtually unmarked roundabout a pain in the backside? By unmarked I mean extremely faint, if any, road markings. I pass the roundabout at least four times a day and everyday I get some idiot go in the right hand lane only to cut across in front of me to go straight on. Surely the council could afford just that little bit of paint!

Depends from which direction you are travelling as to whether they are at fault. If you approach the roundabout from the Leppings Lane side, i.e. past the BP station, then straight ahead, 2nd exit, is approached in the right hand lane. There is a sign on the left hand side as you approach that clearly indicates the correct, albeit unusual, lane to select.

Granted the markings on the roundabout are not as clear as they could be. This is one section of the local test area that all pupils are made aware of.

If you are talking about approaching it from any other direction then that's a different matter. Yes it is a annoying when drivers cut others up.

I'm talking about coming past the petrol station from catch bar lane to the roundabout. You come to two lanes just at the roundabout, one to turn left and one to go either straight on or right. If you got into the one to go right etc, when you set off the lane then splits into two again if you look, either next to the center of the roundabout to go right or on the left hand side to go straight on. The marks are still there if you look very very closely. I always get people that go in the lane right next to the centre and then shoot off to the left hand lane to go straight on towards hallam fm etc. If you get me! Have a close look the next time you go aross it and you'll see what I mean.

P.S it was actually a driving test examiner that pointed it out to me as I drove through the middle thinking it was all one lane. He said to go around it correctly, to go straight on you have to stay on the left hand side lane of the roundabout (not from the lane with the left pointing arrow on it obviously).

Kittenta, I know exactly what you are refering to when you mention the lane marking just forward of that junction. As previously mentioned, pupils have to be aware of that so as not to fall foul of lane discipline on tests. Getting them to keep to the left towards the Hillfoot building then exiting safely, being aware of traffic either side due to the type of driver you have encountered. As you say the ones who

shoot off to the left hand lane to go straight on towards hallam fm etc

I too wish the council would go buy a tin of paint for that fading line but you would still get the ones who choose to ignore it just as they do on many other multi lane roundabouts.

Surely its about time that it had lights at that roundabout, even if only for congestion periods?????:suspect:

Jim:thumbsup:

Yes I agree. They could even change the Zebra crossings into pelican crossings like at the Brook Hill roundabout so that traffic coming off the roundabout can ground to a halt and block all exits onto it. Clever idea that one.

Some time ago a Highways Officer showed me a proposed plan to change the roundabout into a traffic light controlled junction, but the drivers I know who use Leppings Lane have told me they prefer a roundabout.
