Belinkabelle
I'm going to Paris for 5 days shortly and would really appreciate any tips or suggestions from others that have been there themselves. Of course, I want to do the touristy things but I get bored of that kind of thing after a day or two. I would love to get off the beaten track a little and see some of the 'real' Paris. I enjoy art, music, general culture, good food and wine and scenic walks. Some suggestions for nightlife would be great - I like a drink and decent, atmospheric clubs and bars (more into rock/indie type music than any other). My conversational French isn't bad so I don't mind being away from places where English is often spoken. Any ideas welcome

Belinkabelle
No I haven't. My only experience of Paris has been a 3 day school trip about 10 years ago! I've heard a little about the Catacombs and I think it's somewhere I'd like to visit. Have you been?

robS35
I highly recommened a visit to the obervation deck located on top of the roof of the Tour Montparnasse skyscraper, on a clear day the views are awesome and no way near as busy as the Eiffel Tower. http://www.tourmontparnasse56.com/uk/
Stuff
Take a LOT of money with you if you want a drink - it's very expensive! And enjoy a crepe - they're lovely!!
sequin
Iv been three times recently and didn't see the kind of nightlife you seem to be looking for but im sure its there ! I love St Germain and the Latin quarter you can find little bars that look like they havent changed in decades ! Iv had some lovely meals there but it can expensive . Sacré Coeur is a place not to be missed for the views and Basillica . I went to a restaurant off the square at the back there and it was really good and not too expensive . surfinjim
When I was there a few years ago, I enjoyed just hanging around the Trocadero (?) on Sunday afternoon. Loads of peolpe justing hanging about, skating, playing football, frisbee etc etc. Just a really chilled out atmosphere. Jim:thumbsup:
