Guest
I'm renowned for buying magazines and pattern books, flicking through them and thinking 'ooh, I must knit that!'... then filing them away and forgetting all about it when the new Knitty comes out. So anyway, I've been flicking through my past issues of Rowan magazine and have decided that next on the needles (as well as 'River', which is waiting patiently for new needles), will be 'Eowyn' and 'Daisy', both from Rowan 38. How about you?
gempud
Mine will be my first sock kit from Curious Yarns (yes I finally received it last week). Then it will be the Kimono shawl by Cheryl Oberle. And then.....ohmygod....this is the first time I've only ever had 2 things waiting for the needles. Of course I'm not counting the 10 or so other things that I started but didn't finish.
knitbird
I'm making Pampas from Rowan 40 and then Juno both in the colours shown. Then I'm guessing I'm going to have to start thinking about Xmas stuff... though I'm also wanting to improve my fairisle with this in some girly colours. Of course this list is subject to change at any time, according t what else I see. I made the Eowyn gloves for my sister last year and she loved them. The lace annoyed me slightly though as I have no patience whatsover.
Guest
Wow, they're far more adventurous projects than mine, knitbird! I'm in a phase of wanting to try out different yarns, but not wanting to spends lots on a big project - hence the gloves and scarves. I do have a lacey cardican on the needles (well, on a stitch holder) at the minute, but that's only going to take three balls of Sirdar yarn, so I don't think I'll get too bored of working on a project that's a little bigger. PS. That model in the Rowan pictures looks like a red-haired Christini Ricci.
knitbird
Not only that, she's unable to look directly at the camera. These will probably be my only big things to knit over the winter, which I think MIGHT justify the cost of the yarn. At least the magazine was only a tenner, and there's a few other things I like in it.

I'm sure that my little projects will soon add up to God knows how much, so I think I was fooling myself thinking that the small projects were any sort of attempt to save money . I've just discovered that my 'local' yarn shop (in Mountsorrel, so a good twenty or more miles away), has started to stock Louisa Harding and Noro yarn. That's my well-intentioned yarn diet out of the window right there!
turra21
Lisa, How are you getting on with the river rapids socks? What yarn have you chosen and how is the 2 circs method? I tried the pgr yarn over short row heels on my elfines but got very confused by the instructions when it said "Now knit the rest of the stitches on the left needle until you reach the first yarn-over" as what it actually meant was knit to the first "pair"of stitches that contain a yarn-over. On the second attempt I managed to get that right but lost it again on the increases *sigh* and my patience ran out so it came out and I followed the pattern to turn the heel. This has given me two sides that look like your SSSP attempt - but at least they are both the same. I think it is something to do with re-wrapping the stitches on the increase rows. I've not really enjoyed knitting these elfines, maybe I'm not a lace person. I can usually read my knitting but even having started the leg section I still have to look at every row of the pattern even more than once in a row sometimes! I also took on board your comments on the length of the foot. I made mine 18cm as my foot is 22cm but the trouble seems to be with having to go to the 7th or 15th row before you turn the heel because mine too are "floppy" around the toes, this may be given over to the fact that the toes are a lot more rounded than I've done before due to the immediate every row increase once you've cast-on. These could be a pair that live in the drawer and only come out to go to bed or under boots!!

Not started these yet though I have got the needles (had to go for normal metal circulars due to the size) and I have this yarn. Still doing the dragon socks atm - had a bit of a knitting break recently. Oooh the Elfine pattern uses wraps not yarn overs - did you try and sub a PGR heel? What it actually meant was to knit right up to the yarn over(i.e. knit the stitch in that pair) then knit the yarn over with the next stitch as a K2tog - does that make sense (or 2 yo with the next stitch for K3tog) I also took on board your comments on the length of the foot. I too did not really enjoy knitting these as I could not memorise the pattern and it was just such a hard slog:( What does it look like in the Koigu anyway? I tried to sub a pgr heel but when I knit to the next yarn over the number of stitches didin't decrease until I didn't knit the knit stitch before the yarn over if that makes sense. This is what my heel looks like having used the wrap method in the pattern. I worked the leg a bit yesterday but I still can't "read" my knitting. I'm beginning to hate lace:( I don't particularly like Koigu either. Is that a sin? I had balled the skein into centre pull balls but had to rewind them into outside balls half way through as the yarn seemed to have a mind of it's own and would twist around itself, then I would end up with a clump of wool that needed unravelling. Have you used it before? It is a completely different animal from the Celestial Dream Merino I did my Widdershins in.
