Rich
The more expensive blank media tends to be better though, I know from experience that cheap blank discs are almost always crap. Avoid ones bought from Pound shops in particular, 9 times out of 10 they don't work in my experience.

Gadgetgirl
you've got a duff drive then Rich. I have used the poundshop packs (7 for a quid) for quite a while and they are generally as good as the dearer ones bought from specialist stores. Likewise the DVD+R's are pretty decent (upto 8x) and the one on the moor had some DVD+RW's recently. I've used one disk a few times and its fine, no problems. MickM
I've got about 500 stashed away with Ritek dye, they've not let me down so far. It's a bit of a gamble if you buy cheap media though, they might work fine on one writer but be duds when burned/read in another.

Archive quality media will always be a little more expensive but worth the money in the long run.
