Speed Camera on Halifax Road

Recommended Posts

Was left speechless yesterday when I got a right telling off by a cop!

I had just driven out of Deerlands Avenue onto Halifax Road going up towards Penistone Road and saw the little speed camera that they have set up on there from time to time. Was driving at the speed limit, which I always do on there as it is a built up area, and suddenly saw it, then saw the police car at the opposite side of the road.

A few seconds after I had passed the camera, I flashed my lights to the cars coming in the opposite direction to warn them and suddenly noticed 2 police cars behind them. One police car drove straight past me, but the other one behind flashed his lights at me and waved for me to pull over, which I did.

There was one policeman in the car and he started to have a right go at me. He said " Do you want to go to court for preventing the police in their course of duty?" (something along those lines), and said "You have just flashed your lights" I was just about to say something and he said "Don't lie to me!" who's going to the be the one knocking on our door, when you're kid's been knocked down and killed in the road!" He then told me to "Grow up and get on with my driving!"

I was just a bit shocked and drove off. Its not that I don't agree with people speeding, I'm totally against it, but by me warning other drivers to curb their speed, I'm actually doing society a favour. I mean that's what they want isn't it?- people to slow down. If they are so bothered about people driving at the speed limit on that particular stretch of road, why don't they put a permanent camera on there? That is my question!

The cop obviously feels passionate about it, fair enough, but I thought the way he went off was a bit ridiculous. Its not like I did anything really bad.

Then I felt more p***** off when the other drivers didn't let me out when I tried to pull out again!

If they were concerned about speeding then your argument would make sense.

They're actually interested in catching as many people as possible to generate some revenue though, and would rather that you didn't interfere in that activity.

Someone was prosecuted a while ago for putting up a sign warning about a speed trap ahead.

It is an offence to warn others of in impending speed camera. So be warned, you may think you are doing someone a favour but could end up in trouble for it. Anyway if drivers coming the other way are speeding then it's their own fault if they get caught.
