Microsoft Windows Vista RC1

If anyone on the beta rollout of vista knows then Rc1 is out for download. This is an absolute stable release and is pretty functional to be used however before you go reserving your new pc which includes Vista dont forget that our good friends here at Sheffield Forum have another issue with chat, unfortunetly it doesnt seem to work, infact this one crash's everybrowser you try.

Some not so interesting facts about the release of Vista. 32bit editions require 2gb on DVD, and 20gb installed onto hard drive/ 64bit editions require 3.5gb dvd space, and 15gb onto hard drive (however as we all should know 64bit support is a disgrace dont expect it to be fully usable for another couple of years).

It's included with Direct X 10, So all those wanting to buy graphics cards will want to wait for a DX10 compatible card if your after newer improved shaders and PhsyX support. Vista also runs your desktop through your graphics card, not processor so smoother animations and more fancy graphics are expected.

As with every new operating system Microsoft release the requirements go higher and Vista is alot more greedy than XP. So those who find XP slow probley will not like Vista at all, Installation is so easily done is almost laughable you set your options at start, and simply leave it to install. You wont be getting random configuration windows popping up half way through.

I really do not advise upgrading to Vista as soon as it hits the shelves theirs bound to be problems and for some may be unreversable so wait afew weeks/months till serious issues are sorted then get yourself a purchase. Just not the 64bit edition :)

oh btw, theirs also going to be 5 versions of Vista available depending on how much you can spend.

Yep, I've been running it for a week or so on my desktop - thus far its great bar a few driver-related problems during installation.

Personally I like it a lot and the next time I build a new computer Vista will *probably* be the OS I use.

Oh and the 20gig thing? Thats just free space needed during installation - theres all sorts of crud that gets deleted after installion is complete - unfortunately I can't tell you exactly how much space is occupied post-install as I'm nowhere near the machine atm :)
