GabbleRatcht
Thanks guys. There is obviously something deeply wrong with my desktop. A re installed RealPlayer is still saying it can't find the server. It has no DNS entry. My laptop, through the same router has no problems. So it's not the internet connection or firewall issue. I've turned them off. Hardware and software. Any thoughts as to why Thanks
steev
Possibly DNS caching in your windows box, or corrupted/pwned hosts file? Try (from a DOS prompt) ipconfig /flushdns to wipe all cahed stuff, if that does nothing then check C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts for anything untoward. It should look something like # Copyright © 1993-1999 Microsoft Corp. # # This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows. # # This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each # entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should # be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name. # The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one # space. # # Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual # lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol. # # For example: # # 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server # 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host 127.0.0.1 localhost I assume that all your machines will be pointing towards the same DNS? GabbleRatcht
Thanks Steev tried flush DNS. Didn't have any effect. The host file is exactly the same as what you posted. Why would it only be Real Player that is having trouble as all other connectivity is fine?
steev
Can Real Player connect to other sources? Are all your PCs set to use the same DNS? If they are on automatically assigned IP addresses then they will be...
GabbleRatcht
Steev RealPlayer can't even find it's own home page. It says I am either disconnected or working offline. Which obviously I'm not as I've posted this! Can't remember about IPs. Think I set them to static. Will look in router.
GabbleRatcht
No dynamic. Don't know why my wireless printer is not in the list though. It does have a static IP.
steev
Forget the DNS, the "everything else is working" part just sunk in enough If Real Player's not connecting to anything, but all other connectivity is OK, then assuming any Real Player installation on any other PC around there works fine, it's got to be a problem on your PC, surely... If your software firewall is ZoneAlarm, it's been known to still block programs which aren't set in it's allow list after disabling or uninstalling.
