MissGobby
Someone at work yesterday noticed that i have a 'piece' of tread missing on my wheel, i know that i need to buy a new wheel asap as i will get done by bobbies if i get pulled. I work until 5.30pm mon-fri and so far the only day i can get to a garage before it closing is saturday, but i use my car for work and so would prefer to get it done ASAP, does anyone know of a garage that opens after say 6pm one night a week, pref in Hillsborough area, dont want to be driving long distance with THAT tyre lol if you know of anywhere, do you know how much it would be? i have been quoted by one garage in Hillsborough that it will cost no-more than £35 Thanks all xxxx p.s. aint been on much recently, work has banned us now, you all missed me????? xxxxx

mattymoo
I recommend Hawleys on Holme Lane (next to the vets). Had a 14" tyre fitted and balanced by them last week for £30. Took my 3 previous cars there too with no problems, and they're open on Saturdays too
Skatiechik
If you have a piece of tread missing I wouldn't drive with it full stop. Put your spare on till you can get to a garage.

SupraSteve
Tread doesn't fall off!! Did you buy incredibly cheap remoulds last time? What make are they? Buy decent brand tyres, they're the only thing hold you and a ton+ of metal to the road and helping you stop in an emergency. Cheap tyres are false economy and can be dangerous. Regarding your question, tyres are required to have at least 1.6mm of tread (depth) across a continous band of the middle 75% of the tyre's width, for the entire circumference of the tyre. Only you can tell us if your tyre meets that standard or not. Nifty diagram; http://www.tyresafety.co.uk/html/ts/tread.htm P.S. Any/each tyre found to be illegal wins you a fine and 3 points on your license.

Skatiechik
Well I would advise against driving it anywhere until the tyre is fixed if you are serious about tread falling off. For your safety and other road users.
