To drive or not to drive

I read that the guy with no eyes done for dangerous driving has been given a suspended sentence. OK, fine so far. However, he has been ordered to take an extended driving test. Am I missing something here. To take driving lessons don't you need to be able to see the road and other cars etc?

It's not quite as stupid as it sounds. (It's still pretty stupid.)

By law, after a ban for dangerous driving (three years for the blind guy), magistrates must order him to pass an extended driving test, if, and when, he applies to get his licence back. Being blind, he'll fail that driving test before he even gets in the car; more likely he won't ever apply for it.

Thanks for that. I thought there must be a logical explanation somewhere.

Don't think he'll pass then! However as he's not previously bothered about the normal things like having a licence, tax and insurance, that probably won't stop him.
