Pook
My 206 has had this problem for quite a while now (other than being a 206). Basically, it revs/judders when idle, revs/tries to cut out when driving, revs when engine braking - pretty much has a mind of its own. For example, sitting in traffic this morning it tried to cut out, but then corrected itself and revved quite highly. Another example, engine braking in third gear, it revved and so propelled the car forwards. This was quite scary. It's probably connected that it often has trouble starting. Any ideas what the problem is, and how much it will cost to fix, and where in Sheff is best to get it done?
SupraSteve
A faulty Oxygen or lambda sensor (or loose connection) or air clogged filter would be my first ports of call. It might be worth looking for a 206 owners group on the net and see if it's a common fault (and easy fix).
vicki85
Mine (well a 106) did something similar, but that was an aoutomatic, it was better when the spark plugs were changed and some WD40 on them usually did the trick but we still got it eventually. It has now gone to a better place though (completely unconnected) and we never did quite get to the bottom of it.
tinsel_ninja
Happens on my 306. Really annoying. I've had garages look at it, and no-one's ever really fixed it (though one garage was happy to take lots of money trying). The only thing that has worked (though the problem comes back a few months later) is to clean out the throttle body. (Don't know what that actually means myself, but my garage reckons it's fairly simple to do). Please post again if you find a conclusive answer. littlebasher
I would would hazard a guess at the idle control valve or MAF sensor... Although, i have heard that this fault it not uncommon in any petrol 206 or 307 Could even be something as simple as an air leak on the brake servo, faults like this are a bugger to track down. Save yourself some time and money by finding a local dealer (Peugeot specialist) that can read the error codes from the ECU
MonkeyLover
I had a similiar problem with my Corsa lately. Tried everything. Turns out it was the Air Flow Meter. Bought one of Ebay for £47 and a friend fitted it for me in half an hour!
surfinjim
Pook Had very very similar problems on a Fiat Brava and that was the Lambda sensor as previously mentioned by SupraSteve You might be better off finding a garage that offers engine management and might be able to give you a read out cheaper than Dealer prices. I use Thorncliffe Garage in Chapeltown who were really helpful when I had my issues. Cheers Jim:thumbsup:
