BoroughGal
Any of you clever people know when the next (total) solar eclipse would be visible in Europe? I had a look and could only find details upto 2010 (none in Europe).
Guest
According to this, the next total solar eclipse visible from the UK will not be until September 2090: Total Solar Eclipse: the next total eclipse visible in the UK follows a track similar to that of 11th August 1999, but shifted slightly further north and occurring very near sunset. Maximum duration in Cornwall will be 2 minutes and 10 seconds. Though it looks like one could be visible from Europe in July 2010, according to this. redrobbo
nobikejohn and I went to Bulgaria in 1999 to witness the total eclipse of the sun. It was an incredible and emotional experience. NB. I also remember the occasion as my passport was also lost/stolen on that day, and thus I suspect I am one of only a few UK citizens whose passport has been issued by the British Embassy in Sofia. It meant a taxi journey across the width of Bulgaria to get it replaced, starting at 3 in the morning.
AstroKath
Have a look at this site. There's one in 2015 that looks like it'll be visible from the Faroe Islands and Svalbard, which is in Europe, albeit NOT on the mainland! Another in 2026 goes through Spain, then you have to wait until 2060 when Turkey gets one. Russia and Kazakhstan have one in 2061. There's a few which skirt northern africa, which is pretty easy to travel to from Europe. Your best bet would probably be to see one of the ones visible from the US - there's a few more of those in the intervening years.

The europe entry is for the partial eclipse visible in January 2011.

It was a little too early in the morning to spot that omission of the comma .
BoroughGal
Aw thanks for that, everyone. Basically, I'm gonna be waiting some time, then?!

Adam1955
You can look up the information on NASA Solar Eclipse website with full table showing the exact dates of solar eclipse for the next 20 years. I am joining a Solar Eclipse Tour China 2009 with Oriental Travel Company based in London. This is our second trip with them and their arrangement were excellent. Our viewing point is beside a river privately charterted by the company (which is essential given the likely large groups of tourists around the city on the day). That way, we can be assured our equipment can be set up on safety grounds with little disturb or noise.
