pinklady
Ive just got my new TV licnece through today (pay by DD and its sent automatically) I couldnt get my breath, ?136 and summat, for what?? its all total rubbish .... and i never watch terestrial TV now, just sky. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I am lead to believe that we are the only country in the world who has to pay a TV licence, why cant BBC add a scrambler to their channels and charge for a de-scrambler (or whatever they call it!)? ________ Subaru legacy history

You're wrong! Countries that have TV Licences: * 1.1 Europe o 1.1.1 Albania o 1.1.2 Austria o 1.1.3 Belgium (Walloon Region) o 1.1.4 Bosnia and Herzegovina o 1.1.5 Croatia o 1.1.6 Cyprus o 1.1.7 Czech Republic o 1.1.8 Denmark o 1.1.9 Finland o 1.1.10 France o 1.1.11 Germany o 1.1.12 Greece o 1.1.13 Iceland o 1.1.14 Ireland o 1.1.15 Italy o 1.1.16 Macedonia o 1.1.17 Malta o 1.1.18 Norway o 1.1.19 Poland o 1.1.20 Romania o 1.1.21 Slovakia o 1.1.22 Slovenia o 1.1.23 Sweden o 1.1.24 Switzerland o 1.1.25 United Kingdom * 1.2 Asia o 1.2.1 Israel o 1.2.2 Pakistan o 1.2.3 Japan o 1.2.4 Korea, Republic of o 1.2.5 Singapore * 1.3 Africa o 1.3.1 Ghana o 1.3.2 Mauritius o 1.3.3 Namibia o 1.3.4 South Africa The TV Licence pays not only for the BBC TV channels but also all the BBC Radio stations (do you ever listen to them?) and of course BBC Online (ever visit bbc.co.uk?) Don't forget the BBC's educational programming shown in schools and for the Open University. I think it's important to have a good public-service broadcaster like the BBC which is not (or at least, shouldn't be) subject to commercial pressure in the same way as other channels. Also, I'd be interested to know what programming people watch on Sky if they see the entire BBC's output as 'total rubbish'!
Guest Mod_Man
The Beeb provide a great service for it though. 7 T.V. channels, 11 national radio stations, free internet access in all its local radio stations which there are many of. The B.B.C website is a fantastic source of information too. I agree with the licence fee, with it the Beeb can remain as unbiased on serious matters. Do you want all the information you get to be controlled by an australian living in america? I know i dont. Edited after seeing above to put this bit in. Boy that dude above is good isnt he/she? Agree with you entirely.

Zaytsev
£136 for the year, £11.33 per month, £2.61 per week, 37p per day, 1.5 p per hour, .00025p per minute. Come on, for the price of a bottle of bitch pi.ss you get a full weeks viewing, that's good value in my book. I've watched BBC all night for around 5 hours so it's cost me 7.5 pence for a nights entertainment.
Trever
The BBC (Bloody Big Con). It's a bit like having to buy a packet of cigarettes every week even if you don't smoke:loopy: Link
upinwath
If you don't like it do as I did. Rip out the aerial, detune the TV and tell the licence people to take a running jump. I now have a 14" portable connected to a DVD player and no ability to get any off air station in any way so no hundred and odd quid a year to watch rubbish. I did it a while ago after seeing a 'brass eye' prog about peados. I decided if that's what TV had become I wanted to get out of it so I did and don't miss it too much at all. I read the tv page now and again to see what I'm missing and all it does is let me know I did the right thing. Easy peasy
shirker
I've never bought one, interesting to know how much they are....only a matter of time though...went to court 3 years ago and they fined me £40! i suppose its not a bad price, but if you subscribe to sky or whatever (which i don't) it gets pretty expensive
Alex C.
Some of the fee does go to the commercial broadcasters, I think, and it also pays for a lot of the digital terrestrial (freeview) infrastructure
cgksheff
Some of the fee does go to the commercial broadcasters, I think, and it also pays for a lot of the digital terrestrial (freeview) infrastructure It will only go to a commercial broadcaster when the BBC commissions or buys a programme from them. Funding from the licence fee is going towards the Channel 4 "Digital Switchover" costs.
