LordChaverly Posted September 12, 2006 Share Posted September 12, 2006 I must confess to never having heard of this 'Banksy' (I thought for a moment that it might be the World Cup winning goalkeeper). I agree with Sid that this stunt was neither courageous nor imaginative. Indeed, anti-Gitmo stunts have become common place around the world. The most recent one I saw took place near the Peace Gardens on Monday, where a woman in an orange suit was sitting on the ground and a group of people were giving out anti-Gitmo leaflets. Some artists in the past have shown tremendous courage in opposing oppressive regimes. Some of these have produced notable works of art based on the theme of oppression. I doubt very much whether 'Banksy' will achieve the same status, with what is probably best described as a cynical and crude piece of commercial trash.
