shorty558
Just a quick question to ask if anybody has had two male cats living together. My fiance and i have recently adopted a male kitten but we also have an adult male cat who is 4. They dont really seem to be getting on and the older cat doesn't like the kitten. Any advice on what we can do? or has anybody else had this experience? thanx

torin8
Are they neutered? If not then they both might be competing - or the older one might see the younger one as a threat so getting both neutered should help if not already done so. Might be worth detailing what they are getting upto also...
emma2686
dont worry there is always a long period of adjustment when another cat is introduced. i have 2 11 year old cats (one male and one female) and around 3 months ago we adopted a 4 month old male cat, there was a lot of tension between them at first and even now they still have the odd scuffle but they do eat together and sleep together and even wash each other every now and then. i wouldnt worry its just a process that takes time
brisbane
Hi Shorty558, We have two male cats also, one is 9 and the other one two. They hated one another to begin with and it was the kitten that would mug the older one. I can't say they are best of buds now but they have learned to live with one another. They have never got into a fight with each other but I still think the older one doesn't like the young ones lively ways. They will find their own space and learn to live together and could get to like one another. Our other two male cats adored one another and would curl up together like one. dynamicdebz
It's all about territory. Just like when you have one cat, it marks a territory around your garden & areas beyond. Then when a new cat comes to live in the area & dares to venture onto his territory. They will fight & the rest & eventually the cat gives up part of its territory to the new cat. As more & more cats come into the area a little more territory is given up & then their territories start to overlap as more cats take over. That is why late at night you can often hear cats crying like babies (whining).
