babychickens
Anyone had this done? Vaguely how much does it cost? There's already a toilet directly above where we would want to install another one, so I guess it wouldn't be too difficult, but it'd be nice to have a vague idea of how much it costs. cheers
Shiesh
To already have a toilet above would not simplify installation as you cannot flush waste up!! You would need a soil pipe location in immediate vicinity of the new proposed toilet at ground level and also a mains water source for flushing and a wash basin. Depending on these installations being available it would be difficult to give an accurate price!
fnkysknky
You can't flush waste up but if a toilet is above the proposed site then the chances are the soil stack is close by and on the same wall which will make the job easier. Have a look outside and see where the soil stack is that the current toilet is connected to (if the stack is boxed in inside the house then it's a bit more awkward) and see what wall it is on then I can give you a better idea of what work would need doing. Zaytsev
Remember you DO NOT need planning permission but you DO need Building Regulations approval for your proposed works.
Old_Bloke
How do you know how tall a soil stack needs to be? Just wondering if the ones in my house actually have to be as tall and intrusive as they are... Cheers!
fnkysknky
Needs to be vented at least 900mm above any opening that is within 3000mm. Also needs a cage on the top that doesn't restrict airflow.

If you mean an internal stack you can fit a Durgo valve (air admittance valve) this will need to be above the height of the highest flood level, For instance above the overflow on your hand basin. You would obviously need to patch the hole in your roof if the old stack goes through the tiles though
Old_Bloke
Thanks - it's a lot clearer now. I'm just trying to make my house look as smart as I can in case I want to sell it, but still learning what all the bits are there for!!
