superted666
ok so ive just had my second bike stolen! This time though i think the person is on cctv - find out later today. If he is i will obviousley add it to the crime refrence with the police but as i dont really think that will get to far (past experiance) is there anything i can do myself? thinking private investigator, could i post the pic of offender here? Need ideas people instead of bending over and take it like they expect!
kckc
Sorry to hear that Where are your bikes being stolen from? If they look pretty flashy and you leave them in a dodgy area, the blighters will definitely do their best to nick them, no matter what security measures you use. You have to be careful about posting info on offenders on this forum as it may well jeopardise the police investigation. You could tell us where and when your bikes were stolen from, and describe the bikes, to see if any forum folk can provide any useful info. Know how you feel about wanting to take some action though, given the high chance that you'll never hear from the police again about it.

superted666
Thanks for the replies, Bikes were in the car parking lot at west one, it needs a fob to get into it but it doesnt take a genius to follow someone in. The bikes are of high value yes but not particulary flashy, not head about any others being stolen so wondering if its personal!
superted666
okay security said they couldnt see anything odd but i dont have the greatest faith to be honest. I asked for a copy of the CCTV but they said no, can i request it under data protection act?
Guest Pauly
Ever thought it might be the security guys who are partly or entirely responsible? Why else would they be so cagey about it?
superted666
had crossed my mind but they dont look bright enough ive told the police they paid it little attention and asked them to take a look - police sounded less intrested! i realise its only a bike but it WAS my mode of transport and theft is not acceptable! Guest Pauly
Nope and it's bloody infuriating to know that the thieves will most likely get away with it and will do again next week to somebody else. I've also come home from work in the past to find an empty space where my bike once was and it's a horrible feeling. Do you have any insurance, and was it a motorbike or a bicycle? Noodle
I thought under DPA they had to let you have a copy. However, I think they can charge you. There was that comedian who did a think where everytime he was caught on camera he asked for a copy.
helianthus
Superted666, If the security CCTV had a visual recording of the theft being comitted, (or normally these sort of complexes have CCTV on entry/exit points) the police can seize the CCTV tape as evidence under the Criminal Procedure and Investigations Act 1996. The police will only seize the tape if: “material may be relevant if it appears to have some bearing on any offence under investigation, or on any person being investigated, or on the surrounding circumstances of the case, unless it is incapable of having any impact on the case.” As a individual you can only request the CCTV controller to review the tape, and inform the police of any relevance. But if reported to the police the above applies. If you get any hassle with the helmets just quote the above under "CPIA Code of Practice". A good PC will investigate this properly and you should have no problem. Was the bike locked and marked? By having the serial number, it can be added to a database of items. Good luck, if the CCTV at west one dont help contact: Sheffield City Council CCTV Operations Town Hall, Sheffield S1 2HH Tel : 0114 203 7607 e-mail : Steven.Godber@sheffield.gov.uk Im new to the forum, hope this helps.
