esme
it's already compressed but you could try converting to a different recording format, providing your phone supports one or if its an mp3 you could try using something like Audacity to remaster it at a lower bit rate, you'd have to listen to the result to decide if you can hear the difference though
JoeP
As Esme has said, things like MP3 have already been compressed and the only way to get them smaller is to re-master them and lose quality. Attempting to further compress a compressed file can occasionally INCREAE the size of the file slightly as the compression system adds it's 'housekepeing' data to the file. the_mandarin
MP3 are generally encoded at a bitrate of 128 KBPS or 192 KBPS. Such files tend to be about 3MB or 5MB in size. If you plan to hear it off your phone, a bitrate of 16 or 24 KBPS will also be sufficient, and the files will be less than 1MB in size.
scottishdude
Don't know how it does it but me and the wife both have motorola phones, L6 and V80, and the software cd that came with data cable compresses songs and pics and videos by approx 2/3's automaticaly.
