muddycoffee   10 #5 Posted September 10, 2006 Buy the lad a chord book/song book and a guitar and he'll learn it himself. Great hobby!  NM I have never agreed with Nickalarse before but I have played in bands for more than half my life and most of the good people are self taught.  I have the advantage of being a classically trained brass player until my early 20s, and I had free lessons at school and paid for them as a young adult. I am now a keyboards player who specialises in rock organ and funk electric piano playing.  However for a guitar player, I have not met many good ones who paid for lessons, all they need is enthusiasm, and a broad mind, take him to see frank white, and buy him some jimi hendrix cds.. moonstonejo   10 #6 Posted September 25, 2006 Thanks for replies, I agree that it's better to develope your own way, however my son needs the motivation to get him started. Thanks again
 Share this content via...
Guest   #7 Posted September 25, 2006 Self teaching is good for the most part but there's no harm getting a few lessons as others can teach you good technique which can be hard to understand from a book. That said there are plenty of good video/DVD tutorials around
 Share this content via...
