muddycoffee
Buy the lad a chord book/song book and a guitar and he'll learn it himself. Great hobby! NM I have never agreed with Nickalarse before but I have played in bands for more than half my life and most of the good people are self taught. I have the advantage of being a classically trained brass player until my early 20s, and I had free lessons at school and paid for them as a young adult. I am now a keyboards player who specialises in rock organ and funk electric piano playing. However for a guitar player, I have not met many good ones who paid for lessons, all they need is enthusiasm, and a broad mind, take him to see frank white, and buy him some jimi hendrix cds.. moonstonejo
Thanks for replies, I agree that it's better to develope your own way, however my son needs the motivation to get him started. Thanks again
Guest
Self teaching is good for the most part but there's no harm getting a few lessons as others can teach you good technique which can be hard to understand from a book. That said there are plenty of good video/DVD tutorials around

yummyyumyum
i have a four year old daughter who has started showing interest in guitar. my brother in law plays as does a friend of ours, both are really busy people and live quite a distance from us. we have bought her a junior guitar towards xmas. would the above poster be up for giving her a few lessons as me and hubby dont have a clue although i will have a go at learning with her. hopefully free or cheap. thanks, lisa x
