Alky
I replaced my failed VCR with a HDD/DVD recorder 18 months ago. With the advent of a power cut on Friday (see other thread "Power cut broke my modem"by adamd!) the unit is now trashed (HDD failed - wont even power up past a silly screen saying "Hello"!!!!! Given the new ipods etc, is there a unit out there somewhere that can act as a VCR/DVD recorder for the tv that is solid state? If you can get 1gb memory for £10 then 60 gb for £60 seems reasonable plus a box and some gubbins - cant be that difficult can it?
Alky
How reliable ar DVD RW? Can they be used reliably? Could I use them to form a library of tv programs? Can you delete individual programs of a disk or do you have to reformat the disks? Please help.
mr chris
RW are usually a little bit more fragile and unforgiving than R, but if you handle them carefully then you shouldn't have any problems. Also, did you have a surge protector? My DVD/HDD has been through a few powercuts and thunderstorms and has come out okay.
Ghozer
It sounds to me as though it had a data corruption (writing to the drive) during the power cut, so resetting it (follow in the manual) should fix it, however you would loose everything on there. Gleadly
I know this is an old topic however has anyone any experience of using a DVD HDD Recorder as I'm looking for a reasonably good one? Sometimes I see some good technical videos on Facebook and Youtube which I can watch on the TV via an HDMI cable.
