dulcet69
Hi there, Recently moved from S11 Greystones from a small (yes I mean it one bedroom was six foot square!!) four bedroomed semi with hardly any garden to our dream home which I found by accident which is near Graves Park. Had not thought about moving areas until fell in love with this property and the area did not seem alien as we often take the kids to Graves Park at weekends. Went to see this property on a whim and we all fell in love with it and were fortunate enough to sell ours immediately (which we hadnt been able to the year previously) and get this one - all within seven weeks!! However we have three kids aged nearly 14, 6 and 5. My eldest son will remain at High Storrs School as he does not want to leave and I feel this is best for him. My other two (one already at Greystones Primary the other starts there next week) I am not sure about - should I move them to our local school which is Mundella however their next school would be Newfield or leave them at Greystones Primary which would give them entry to High Storrs. I really want them to make friends locally but also want a good education for them. I personally never settled in S11 was there for nearly seven years - personally feel its overated people not over friendly and always "keeping up with the jones". Whereas now everyone has been so welcoming neighbours, shop owners and woodseats shopping centre itself is just so friendly - never chatted so much and believe me I can talk. My other post was about wanting to get the kids into some local clubs etc rainbows, cubs or whatever to encourage friendships but should I try and move school now anyway as they are so young? What do people think to Mundella school or any comments or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for previous replies to my last posting. Harley
Welcome to Norton Lees! It's a fantastic place to live, as you're discovering. My child has just finished Mundella, with excellent Sat's results, and has loads of friends. The school runs loads of extra curricular activities, such as football, gymnastics, athletics, etc. The gym squad finished 3rd in the Yorkshire schools last year, and the athletics had a good result in the schools competition (not sure of the placing). The swim squad entered the schools gala for the first time last year, and won their division, so this year will be competing in the top division. The also do film making activities and italian lessons. As for secondary school, we're in the catchment for Newfield, and all the local kids go to there. From Mundella last year, only 3 kids went to other secondary schools, 1 went to a catholic school, and 2 went to Dronfield. I hope this helps. PM me if you want to ask anything else. dulcet69
Hi my email address is dulcet.syko@tesco.net. Unable to send private messages yet as I havent contributed enough messages through forum being a new member. I would greatly appreciate the number for the local District Commissioner S8 Blade please many thankx Also Harley thanks so much for your message. We have been to see Mundella a second time and I was very impressed. Alas they cannot get them in yet as no spaces and cannot guarantee spaces for both at the same time and there is just no way I can send one to Greystones and one to Mundella! so unfortunately the decision has been taken out of our hands my daughter is especially sad as she really wanted to go there as she was aware of the gymnastics and football activities which she would have loved! You dont know any local classes for that do you other than Graves. Thanx Sue
Harley
Hi Gym Clubs in our area are: The Workshop 0114 2353108 on Little London Road and Steel City Gymnastics on Broadfield Road (Haven't got the number for that one). Having experienced both clubs, I would highly recommend The Workshop over Steel City. Reasons being: Lower pupil to coach ratio at W/shop You can spectate at W/shop, you can't at Steel City All club policies are clearly posted on the entrance foyer of W/shop including codes of conduct and child protection policies. Facilities - brand new at W/shop
