CHAIRBOY
I hope this is not the wrong page but I wouldn't imagine classical music followers would read the "Music, TV" thread. There is an item on the second part of tonight's BBC Prom (BBC1) - the first part is on BBC 2 - and one of the works, Bullanguera, has been arranged by Matthew Barley who is also a world famous cellist. Matthew is from Sheffield and attended High Storrs School in th 80's, when his father, Simon, was a GP at the Crookes Practice on School Road at Crookes. The family lived off Ecclesall Road and his elder brother Adam, was also at the school. Matthew, on evidence of his playing at High Storrs, was always going to make it in the music world and has been paid a glowing tribute by Sir Leonard Bernstein. http://www.matthewbarley.com/ Whether or not Matthew is interviewed or takes a stage bow, I've no idea but as time elapses, it needs those of a certain generation to know his background to realise local interest. I wish him every success and hope those who view, enjoy the concert which is conducted by Halle musical director, Mark Elder. The opening of the second half, about 9.15 begins with the Eric Coates march "Calling all Workers". Those of my generation will recognise the broad theme that once was the signature tune of the radio programme, "Music While You Work"!
