Sony
What a day. I'm shattered... British motorways are getting worse, so stressful. Lorry drivers overtaking constantly, vectra reps going at near enough 100 mph on fast lane, accidents, delays.. We then get into Liverpool, and it takes aaaaaages to get into the city centre, Dale street car park is what we're looking for. What do I do- i end up in the birkenhead tunnel... That'll be £1.30 for the pleasure, thanks bloody thanks!! Turn back into tunnel- get into dale street car park. Had a nice few hours, nice city, nice docks. Then the nightmare journey home. Took 3 and a half hours, accidents, accidents and more bloody accidents. The standards of driving are appaling and the motorways are jam packed. It just cannot continue like this. I'm exhausted, what a day!!
peterw
If you set off at rush hour and return at rush hour what do you expect. Next time, plan your journey so not to coincide with rush hour traffic, and buy an A to Z of Liverpool to find Dale Street. Sorry about the rant but just come off a thread discussing the alleged bad driving of elderly people, so I’ve got to frustrate my anger somewhere and from what you’ve said you must be elderly and near enough blind. The tunnel signs are MASSIVE! — and you missed ’em! Calmed down now, and glad you enjoyed the remainder of you day. Liverpool is a very nice city. alchresearch
I think the Birkenhead tunnel is quite easy to accidentally turn into. I was actually underneath the road tunnel on a tour last night, it was soooo cool! If you like the docks you should have had a look at the ones in Birkenhead, there are some great old buildings, like the one below: http://www.28dayslater.co.uk/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=1237&d=1137260638
Alex C.
I hate travelling with anyone in a car now, try and always take the train if possible - so much nicer and (almost always) stress free.

More than likely — but think of the fun you’re missing. No accidental turning into one of Liverpool’s tunnels and having to pay out money for something you didn’t want, and no treasure hunt for its Dale Street car park! Life’s for living and you aint getting any!
peterw
Was this a passport visit? Just for interest, some years ago The Dalesman magazine carried an advertisement for ‘Yorkshire Passports’. Don’t know how much money the makers made out of it, but I thought that is was a good fun idea.
alchresearch
It’s a darned sight easier NOT to turn into! I'm not so sure. Come down the hill to that roundabout. Get accidentally caught in the inside lane (easily done as they're not marked where they go to until it's too late) and then you're at the roundabout - a very busy roundabout. You either have to wait until it's clear or someone lets you in (yeah, right that happens a lot in Liverpool), forcibly cut someone up, or go into the tunnel. I saw it twice last night for myself at 4pm.
